Mountaineers’ anger at new wind farm proposal – The Herald

MOUNTAINEERS and climbers are preparing to fight a third proposal to build
a wind farm near a famous peak.

The Mountaineering Council of Scotland (MCofS) say the plans for six
turbines at Woodlands Farm, less than two miles north of Dingwall, are the
latest in an “assault” on Ben Wyvis.

In September, the council urged developer PI Renewables to withdraw plans
for a 19-turbine wind farm on the flanks the famous Ross-shire peak and
earlier in the year Falck Renewables was refused planning permission for
similar plans for a 17-turbine wind farm on the eastern side.

Now, ABO Wind UK Ltd is proposing to submit a planning application to the
Highland Council for six turbines at Woodlands Farm.

MCofS chief officer David Gibson said: “When will the assault on Ben Wyvis
cease?”

But Clark Crosbie, ABO’s project manager, said: “We believe we have used
the topography of the existing land form around the site to minimise visual
impacts.”
