Rogart Community Council is to hold a meeting next week to discuss two proposed major wind farm developments in the surrounding area.
Power company WKN is seeking consent to erect nine turbines up to a maximum blade tip height of 149.9m on open moorland sloping down to the south shore of Loch Shin, some 18.3km to the north west of Lairg.
The development would have an installed capacity of up to 49.9mw.
And an application has also been lodged for Garvary Wind Farm – a 37-turbine development on Garvary and Achinduich Estates, some 4.5km north of Lairg and 5.5km south of Bonar Bridge.
On its social media page, Rogart Community Council says that a major concern is the traffic impact through Rogart during the construction phases, should consent be given.
Its post states: “Garvary alone will require 370 abnormal load movements on the A839 in from the Mound.
“If all the consented and proposed wind farms are built around Lairg we will face 1600 abnormal loads.”
The meeting at 7pm on Wednesday, May 19, is to gauge the views of local residents. Anyone wishing to attend should email rogartcommunitycouncil@gmail for a Zoom link.
