We have been sent the following images from Loch of Shining Waters who are a community based group that are currently campaigning against wind farm developments and a petrochemical plant in the Central Fife area. A spokesperson from the group commented;
Residents in the Central Fife area were once again impacted upon by the petrochemical plant at Mossmorran, operated by ExxonMobil after a ‘process upset’ caused another flaring event. Flaring events at Mossmorran is a regular occurrence from both ExxonMobil via the Fife Ethylene Plant and the Shell NGL plant.
A wind farm of 9x125m turbines ws constructed in close proximity to the plant, which was identified in research as having the potential to increase pollutants emitted from the petrochemical plant in higher concentrations in the local area. An area which is already beset with health problems, including various lung disorders and cancers.
Residents have to put up with the safety issues from the Mossmorran plant, the noise pollution including infrasound, vibration, air pollution and light pollution. We now have a wind farm with more pending construction, and pending approval, yet despite the health concerns raised by a scientific report from the University of Glasgow, our last remaining countryside is being ravished by wind turbine developments, which could increase the current health problems in the surrounding communities, as well as adding new health impacts on residents.
Since the construction of Little Raith, there is issues of shadow flicker, including shadow flicker in the evening during flaring events, noise pollution including infrasound. Residents are already reporting health impacts from increased disturbed sleeps, increased mild and painful headaches, tinnitus, and pressure on the ears and body.
Our area has seen the direct devastation from the oil industries, and now we are witnessing the devastation from the supposed ‘green’ industries. Although the developments are worlds apart, we can reassure everybody, that they all dance to the same tune, profit before people.
