Variable Pitch is an online website that tracks wind farms throughout the UK, showing the capacity of a specific wind farm from results published by Ofgem, as well as the incomes they have received to date.
Currently there is over 700 stations listed with wind farm data from power capacity and payments made to the developers.
The last few years have seen a massive increase in the number of Wind Turbines visible on the skylines throughout the United Kingdom. Debates about their efficiency or funding tend to evoke strong emotions in both propoents and opponents but finding hard facts isn’t straightforward. The schemes introduced by the UK government add a layer of opaqueness that is used by both sides of the argument for their own purposes. This site is an attempt to allow the data to be free to tell it’s story without additional commentary.
The webmaster & programmer of the site, has also provided some of the coding as Open Source, allowing the code to be modified and hosted on your own web host, if you want to run an independent version of the site for your group.
