Opposition to wind is no longer a NIMBY issue and is making itself felt in electoral politics in Scotland. UKIP has always had a radical anti-wind energy policy, which has found many sympathisers in Scotland http://ukip.org/media/policies/energy.pdf. Earlier this year, the Scottish Tories launched their new energy policy. It was highly significant because it was the first time that a major political party in the UK set out clear constraints for future wind development http://www.scottishconservatives.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Energy_Jan13_FINAL.pdf.

Now a new political party with an explicit anti-wind agenda has been launched in Inverness. The Alliance Party of Scotland is not a single-issue party, although a key aim is ‘an energy policy that is fair for consumers, the economy and the environment.’ APS hopes to field candidates in key SNP-held constituencies in the 2015 election. Further information about APS can be found at www.alliancepartyscotland.org.uk

SAS welcomes all individuals, groups and parties who want to see current wind policy reformed. We are lobbying hard to encourage all political parties to reassess their energy policies in the light of all the negative evidence about wind energy.

SAS is a single-issue campaign group and Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO). As such SAS cannot align itself with any political party however much our Supporters may personally endorse a particular party. We wish APS the best of luck, and they will doubtless be adding to the message which UKIP and the Scottish Tory Party stances on wind have already conveyed to the SNP and Labour – namely that the growing unpopularity of windfarms will be expressed at the ballot box.
