Scots industrial magnate Jim McColl was among the VIP guests at the recent
opening of the new Moventas factory in Finland.
Moventas – which manufactures gears for wind-turbine generators – is part
of McColl’s Clyde Blowers Capital group and this new factory will create up
to 100 new manufacturing jobs.
With the new Finnish factory, Moventas is able to develop more innovative
products, and up-scale production to meet demands from a number of global
wind turbine manufacturers.
The corner stone of the expansion is the increased assembly and testing
capacity for new and higher rated products. The expansion’s capacity is
3,850 m2 and includes a new state of art 7.5MW testing facility. The
overall investment is €17 million and has been completed in co-operation
with a municipally-owned real estate company.
At the moment, about 540 people work at Moventas of which 435 work in
Finland. The new expansion can employ up to 100 new employees.
A Moventas spokesman added: “The expansion of the existing facility
recognises the significant success we have had with our market leading
product for large onshore wind turbines.
“This investment provides the future capability and capacity to ensure that
Moventas is able to fully meet its growing customer demands and continue to
be recognised as a technology leader within the wind-dustry.”
