A newly launched partnership between government and industry is hoping to increase jobs in the the Scottish offshore wind sector by 75% by 2030.

The Scottish Offshore Wind Energy Council, launched today, said it will look to bring Scotland’s current 1 gigawatt (GW) of operational offshore wind capacity up to 8GW by 2030.

The council said the increase in capacity would increase jobs in the sector to 6,000.

It will be co-chaired by Scottish Energy Minister Paul Wheelhouse and SSE Renewables’ head of projects in offshore development, Brian McFarlane.

The new 6,000 job figure is said to be a 75% increase in the current job number in the industry.
