The long running noise dispute at Cotton Farm looks set to spill into the courtroom.

The wind farm has long been the subject of controversy with local residents complaining of noisy turbines. Acoustician Mike Stigwood even set up a live link recording amplitude modulation at the site near Huntingdon.

The complainant – Keith Holl, a scientist – has commissioned acousticians and legal counsel and lodged papers in court. Wind farm operator Greencoat is also preparing its defence and has filed documents with the court.

Greencoat says noise emissions comply with planning permission limits, and attempts to reduce noise by changes turbine speeds represent best practical means, a legal defence.

Residents have long complained about amplitude modulation from the wind farm and live recording has taken place detailing the nuisance (Noise Bulletin May 2015). The wind farm sits on a borough boundary and residents of both Huntingdonshire and South Cambridgeshire have been told that no further complaints will be accepted by the councils.

The trial is set for five days before a District Judge in Cambridge in January 2021
