ScottishPower Renewables (SPR) has revealed plans to invest more than £250m as part of the company’s long-term commitment to Dumfries and Galloway.
The company has proposed extensions to the existing Kilgallioch and Harestanes South wind farms and a new renewable energy development at Euchanhead.
The three developments have the potential to generate 233MW of clean renewable energy – enough to power 166,500 homes per year or keep over 360,000 electric vehicles charged.
Subject to approval, works at Kilgallioch and Harestanes could commence in 2022, with Euchanhead following by 2025 – the same year as Dumfries and Galloway Council aims to achieve its ambition of becoming a Net Zero Carbon Region.
With around £ 20 million to be spent locally across the three projects, an estimated 600 person-years of employment will be provided – including jobs for 150 people at the peak of construction.
