ScottishPower Renewables (SPR) has revealed plans to invest more than £250m as part of the company’s long-term commitment to Dumfries and Galloway.
The company has proposed extensions to the existing Kilgallioch and Harestanes South wind farms and a new renewable energy development at Euchanhead.
The three developments have the potential to generate 233MW of clean renewable energy – enough to power 166,500 homes per year or keep over 360,000 electric vehicles charged.
Subject to approval, works at Kilgallioch and Harestanes could commence in 2022, with Euchanhead following by 2025 – the same year as Dumfries and Galloway Council aims to achieve its ambition of becoming a Net Zero Carbon Region.
With around £ 20 million to be spent locally across the three projects, an estimated 600 person-years of employment will be provided – including jobs for 150 people at the peak of construction.
SPR CEO Lindsay McQuade said: “Supporting jobs, providing sustainable economic investment and delivering meaningful benefits for the people of Dumfries and Galloway are the real and tangible outputs our renewable energy projects in the region can deliver.
“In the year of COP26 in Scotland, our projects are also a great example of the efforts needed across the country to achieve Net Zero.
“Our ambitio n is to ensure no community is left behind on that journey and we’re proud to be leading the way, including allocating voluntary local community benefit funds to support carbon-reducing initiatives.
“We’ve been investing in Dumfries and Galloway for 15 years and are excited to bring forward plans that will ensure it continues to be at the heart of the transition to deliver a cleaner and better future .
“I n addition, our proposed developments will build on the positive impact for jobs and the local economy our existing projects have had to date. They will support the creation of sustainable green employment for a generation, which will benefit people, businesses and communities alike.
“We’re proud to be an important part of the landscape and the community and will continue to do all we can to support the region to achieve a vibrant and sustainable future.”   https://www.gallowaygazette.co.uk/business/scottishpower-renewables-plans-to-invest-more-than-ps250m-in-dumfries-and-galloway-developments-3167210?fbclid=IwAR0BAAvWoFPyO65skQpiLQ2G_Bo9bCm29IbxGfKFAqmwT_8xJYp4vOVmsPc
