Humza Yousaf recently hailed Scotland’s offshore wind sector as “pivotal” for the nation’s future, but industry insiders say that the government is not moving quickly enough to capture the multibillion-pound prize on offer.
Last year the Scottish government pledged to halve the time it took to get projects through the approval phase, involving environmental and other checks, before a final decision by ministers. The process at present takes about two years, and many believe the civil service and government agencies involved do not have the staff to reduce this.
Berwick Bank, off the coast of East Lothian, which will be the largest offshore wind farm in the world if it goes ahead, has already waited 14 months since submitting its consent application. https://www.thetimes.co.uk/…/scotland-at-risk-of…
