If you feel exhausted to receive yet another email from our campaign, think how we feel in Straiton, where yet another of the five major windfarm applications near our village has gone in to the Energy Consents Unit of the Scottish Government. This one is Glenmount, planned by RWE (Npower).

East and South Ayrshire Landscape Wind Capacity Studies say clearly that planners should “Maintain the rugged scenery and sense of wildness associated with Loch Doon and the Carrick Hills by directing wind farm development away from this landscape” and that there is “no scope for larger development typologies to be sited in this landscape” and that “no turbines over 20 metres should be considered for this landscape.” How clear does the advice have to be? The 19 turbines proposed by RWE are 130 metres high and would be situated just a few hundred metres from Loch Doon, in wild and lovely country which belongs to grouse and golden eagles, not to energy companies.

If you live locally, you might also be interested to know that “Construction traffic through the communities of Kirkmichael and Straiton … will last for approximately 24 months, and … significant driver delay and community effects are forecast during the construction phase if unmitigated.”
Objections should be made before 24th February 2014.

The easiest way to object is to fill in our online form: click here: http://savestraitonforscotland.com/online-form-for-glenmount-windfarm-objection/

OR, better still, if you have time, you can write your objection, using the reference,

RE: RWE Npower Renewables Ltd – Planning Application for Glenmount Windfarm, west of Loch Doon (Central Grid Reference 245000, 600000).
to the following address:

Scottish Government Energy Consents Unit
4th Floor, 5 Atlantic Quay

If you have connections to the area – whether you live here or have been here on holiday – then please mention them. You must include your address.

Other suggestions for objecting, along with template letters, are on our How to Object page at http://savestraitonforscotland.com/how-to-object-to-glenmount-windfarm/

Key documents from the RWE plans for Glenmount and a gallery of some key photomontages provided by RWE are available on our website – at http://savestraitonforscotland.com/2014/01/31/glenmount-the-images/

You can check out all the other things we have been up to on our News Page, and contact us if you would like further help or advice, but most of all WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT.

Objections are counted per individual, so please make sure that everyone does a separate objection.

PLEASE SUPPORT OUR CAMPAIGN TO PROTECT SOME OF THE MOST LOVELY HILLS AND VALLEYS IN SCOTLAND.
