YOUR report about the plans to double the capacity of the Cruachan pumped
storage hydroelectric scheme is a win-win story (“£1bn plan to double
output of Scotland’s ‘Hollow Mountain'”, The Herald, February 11).
Hydro is well established in Scotland and we are skilled at building
facilities with negligible visual impact. Our extensive wind farm network
is sometimes at its most productive when demand for power is low (such as
during the night), so the ability to store green energy for use during peak
demand strongly justifies the financial and social costs of the wind farms.
Politically, the Scottish Government’s faith in pursuing clean green
energy is increasingly seen to be well justified. This is the progress that
emphasises the importance of a Yes vote in the referendum.
Decisions and plans affecting the people of Scotland have been made in
Scotland and really will benefit the people of Scotland.
