The Scottish Government’s obsession with wind turbines looks set to bunker
our most iconic golf courses.
Objections from Gleneagles Golf Resort to the erection of six giant
turbines in the Ochil Hills have been ignored, despite the fact that a
global audience of millions will watch the Ryder Cup to be staged there
later this year.
But Gleneagles is only the latest to suffer this appalling desecration.
Royal Aberdeen now has a 218ft steel monster towering over the 14th tee.
Six 328ft turbines will be erected within sight of St Andrews’s world
renowned Old Course. Marine Scotland has even invited bids for a massive
offshore wind farm directly in front of Turnberry Championship Golf Course
in Ayrshire.
Golf generates hundreds of millions in tourist revenue annually and it is
beyond comprehension how the SNP Government can continue to put this at risk.
The forest of useless wind turbines already erected has sent energy costs
soaring, forcing more than one million Scottish households into fuel
poverty, while Scotland’s own emissions targets continue to go unmet.
The SNP Government has scored a bogey with its wind turbine assault on
Scotland’s golf courses and it is time it got back on course with a
sensible energy policy.
