Strathallan residents and politicians have welcomed the rejection of the
controversial Mull Hill wind farm.
After Force 9 Energy’s plans to create a nine turbine windfarm at Mull
Hill, just east of Crieff, were originally thrown out, they appealed the
decision.
This week, the Scottish Government dismissed the appeal.
Auchterarder and Muthill residents have welcomed the news following
concerns about the visual impact of the turbines on the surrounding areas.
Many also worried about their cumulative impact with the Beauly to Denny
power line.
Auchterarder community councillors also welcomed the dismissal, believing
the windfarm would have been “highly visible from Auchterarder”.
Liz Smith, Scottish Conservative MSP for Mid Scotland & Fife said: “It is
welcome news that good sense has prevailed and the Mull Hill wind farm has
been dismissed.
“It was clear from the outset that the vast majority of local people were
against the Mull Hill wind farm. Just as importantly, there is significant
public concern about the planning process and how well it responds to local
democracy.
“The rejection of this appeal sends a strong message that local people must
be at the heart of planning decisions and that both Local and National
Government must be mindful of these concern in the future as they revue the
planning system.
“It was clear that it was going to have a detrimental impact on such a
scenic area and given the strength of local objections the community will
feel that on this occasion the Scottish Ministers have listened and
dismissed the appeal.”
