MORE wind turbines could be erected in a Scottish beauty spot said to be
already at saturation point after a council boss recommended new plans are
given the green light.
Perth and Kinross Council has received 52 letters of objecting to the
latest plans to build seven turbines north of Calliacher, Amulree.
Residents claim the turbines would have an impact on birds and wildlife and
lead to a loss of visual amenity.
A 14-turbine windfarm at Calliacher was built last year, but only after the
Scottish Government granted the application, which had been refused by the
council and a public inquiry. Now Perth and Kinross Council development
quality manager Nick Brian has recommended approval of the latest scheme.
But Amulree farmer Susan MacKinnon said: “The proposal clearly breaches
Perth and Kinross’ development plan.The landscape, communities and wildlife
are at saturation point.”
In his report on the proposal, Mr Brian said he considers the plan has been
“carefully designed” to minimise significant adverse effects on the
environment.
Meanwhile the Scottish Government, the renewables industry and conservation
groups are teaming up to produce a new wind farm guide that aims to protect
birds.
