THE boss of a renewable energy company has resigned after making offensive
comments about gays and disabled people on social media.
Matt Braund was the Inverness-based project development manager for ABO
Wind UK, a subsidiary of a German offshore wind company, which is
spearheading a £390 million investment programme in the Highlands.
Mr Braund referred on Facebook to “homsexual [sic] retarded” sportsmen,
urged lesbians to stop looking like men, and made an insulting reference
to Cheryl Cole.
He also said the late pop star Stephen Gately, who was praised for coming
out publicly in 1999, “had it coming”. Mr Gately died in 2009 at the age of
33.
Mr Braund, who has since apologised, said: “It gives me great sadness to be
leaving a company that I have worked so hard with for the past number of
years. My resignation is in part due to adverse effect my private comments
have had on one of our projects.”
