A public exhibition is to be held next week into a proposed wind farm in
the Scottish Borders.
West Coast Energy want to build 10 turbines at Weetroot near Westruther in
Berwickshire.
The developers will outline plans for a community benefit fund at the
exhibition which is being held at Westruther Village Hall on Tuesday
(September 30).
This would amount to an annual guaranteed payment of £5000 for each
megawatt of installed generation, index-linked for the operational lifetime
of the development.
It is also proposed that some of the community fund be targeted towards
tackling fuel poverty in the area through West Coast Energy’s partnership
agreement with Energy Action Scotland, the national fuel poverty charity.
West Coast planning and public affairs director Steve Salt said: “The
proposed development will bring a range of benefits and opportunities to
local groups and businesses, and we feel that by engaging at this early
stage we can deliver a proposal that really meets the needs of local people.”
