Infinis Energy gives the green light for 21 turbine wind farm off coast of Argyll – The Herald

INFINIS Energy, chaired by former SSE boss Ian Marchant, has said it will
proceed with plans to build a big wind farm in Argyll after securing £52m
development funding.

The renewable energy specialist has arranged facilities with Royal Bank of
Scotland and National Australia Bank that it will draw on to fund the
construction and operation of the A’Chruach Wind Farm. The company expects
the site to be operational by 31 March 2016.

In August Infinis had said it would only begin construction of A’Chruach
once the outcome of the referendum on Scottish independence, and its
potential effect on energy policy, was known.

The 21 turbine farm will lie around three miles north-west of Minard and
six miles north-east of Lochgilphead.

It will have an installed capacity of 43 MegaWatts and generate enough
electricity to power around 15,000 homes. The turbines are expected to
produce electricity for around 25 years.

Glasgow-based RJ McLeod will work on the construction project.

Infinis operates seven onshore wind farms in Scotland.

The firm operates 16 wind farms in the UK and has plans to develop 10 more
in Scotland, including the A’Chruach project.
