Campaigners have vowed to fight against another controversial application
for wind turbines close to their homes.
A string of objections was registered last year after an application from
Green Cat Renewables for three turbines on farmland 984 yards to the west
of Rossie School in Montrose.
The developer’s application for Tellus Energy Ltd on behalf of landowner
John Stirling was finally withdrawn in December but the firm’s intention
was to resubmit plans in the new year for two smaller turbines.
That application has now been lodged with Angus Council and STORM (Stop
Turbines On Rossie Moor) campaigners have immediately drawn battle lines,
with objection posters being sent out under the heading: “Here we go again!”
STORM successfully fought against plans for three 345ft turbines when a
previous application was lodged in 2007.
Virginia Fraser, who lives nearby, said: “Some folk never give up. This new
scheme has been cunningly trimmed down.
“It will no doubt be good for the developers’ and landowners’ profits but
of little or no benefit to the environment or anybody else certainly not
the taxpayers and consumers.
“And if they get away with two turbines, what next? Sadly, the battle goes on.”
She said a previous application by the same developers for three turbines
was withdrawn after attracting more than 90 objections.
She added: “The proposed turbines will still be close to Rossie Moor and
the only public footpath which crosses it and even closer to the footpath
linking it to the Mountboy Road.
“This could be the thin end of a very large wedge originally developers
wanted to erect five huge turbines at this site.”
