JENNY Hogan (Letters, January 22) takes George Herraghty (Letters, January
21) to task for misrepresenting the contribution that renewables make to
energy production in Scotland. She claims that, during 2014 as a whole,
wind power provided 2 per cent of all electricity.
Doubtless some will accuse me of oversimplifying the issue, but if I may
extrapolate Ms Hogan’s statement, do I understand that, if we despoil four
times the current land and sea areas, we will be able to generate all the
electricity we require (but there will still be occasions when the wind
speed is either insufficient or excessive, so life will grind to a halt and
we will all freeze?)
