Follow The Money

9pm, BBC Four

It’s still too early to call where Follow The Money, our new Saturday night
Danish double-bill chum, will rank in the BBC Four Euro League, although it
won’t ever threaten Spiral, the sashaying, messy French cop saga, for the
top spot. Equally, it’s doubtful it will be in contention with the first
series of The Killing, Borgen and The Bridge for the runners up place. But
it looks better than – if not as winningly crazy as – Salamander, the
plucky Belgian one with that cocky 1980s VHS thriller cop, which the Hatton
Gardens robbers faithfully adapted as a real-life heist. The series has good
pedigree. Writers Jeppe Gjervig Gram and Anders August previously
contributed to Borgen and entertaining family angstathon The Legacy, and
serve a platter of proven Nordic appetisers, with a socially pickled plot
involving the economic crash, politics, big business, corruption, green
energy, and a corpse in the water. The dead man is a young Ukrainian worker,
who had been employed at an offshore windfarm run by slick renewable power
giant Energreen. Investigating comes driven
cop-with-a-wife-suffering-multiple-sclerosis Mads Justesen (Thomas Bo
Larsen), who quickly begins to suspect Energreen and its thrusting young
CEO, Sander Sødergren (Nikolaj Lie Kaas), might not be as squeaky and
ethical as everyone believes.
