The three-turbine Muirhall South wind turbine farm development in South
Lanarkshire has been commissioned and is now live as of yesterday.
The project was approved on appeal to the Scottish Government last year and
qualified under the Renewables Obligation – just before the subsidy was
stopped by the UK government.
It will inject around a further £100,000 per year into the community’s
worthy causes, further supporting the local and wider population. This is
in addition to the current investment from the Muirhall Windfarm and
Muirhall Windfarm Extension. The development investment for this project is
expected to be circa £14 million.
Chris Walker, Managing Director, Muirhall Energy, said: “We are very
pleased to have delivered these three turbines in such an exceptionally
short period of time, with turbine supply agreements with GE reached in
two-and-a-half weeks.
“A smooth financial process with Close Brothers assisted an early
construction, enabling Muirhall Energy to have the turbines bought and
erected in six months. In the current financial climate, this
professionalism is greatly valued.
This fantastic achievement demonstrates the capabilities of the dynamic
partnership of WWS Renewables and Muirhall Energy, and we look forward to
the project becoming fully operational.”
Having already erected two Senvion 3.2MW machines with 147 metre tips at
Muirhall Extension (Phase 2) – the tallest onshore turbines in the country
at the time; Muirhall Energy and WWS Renewables have now installed three GE
2.75MW turbines at the project’s third phase – Muirhall South, consisting
of the UK’s largest rotors at 120 metres.
Declan Cullinane, Account Manager for GE said: “We are pleased with the
progress onsite for the Muirhall southern extension using the GE2.75-120
turbines given the challenging weather over the winter period. The
flexibility and pragmatic approach taken by both parties has ensured the
project is delivered to its full potential.
This is the first project to cement the relationship between Muirhall
Energy Ltd and GE Renewables, a relationship which we see growing in
strength in the near future.”
