SIR, – The news that e.on is leaving Glenmoriston and taking with it the
threat of 18 unwanted industrial turbines from the loch Ness Ring of Steel
is welcome indeed, but what a way to do it.
By slinking away without telling anyone, they show how far removed these
multi-national wind speculators are from reality and how they have no
understanding of the distress they cause by their presence in our communities.
Having a threat to homes and businesses by industrial turbines weighs
heavily on people’s minds and affects them deeply for years as proposals
linger. If these companies have no clue what they do to the wellbeing of
local people they shouldn’t even be here. Nicola Sturgeon has said that
this SNP government believes the opinion of those people living in the
areas where fracking is proposed is important, so why will they not give
communities the veto on wind development – like Westminster has given
citizens in England – and protect us from unwanted speculating? Are those
against wind less important to the government?
Are our numbers and our votes too few to care about? They have been asked
for the veto and refuse to answer and are no better than the
multi-nationals that prey upon us. It is a government’s job to protect its
people. If, as they tediously tell us, we in Scotland want more onshore
wind why is the veto a problem? Are they too feart of the truth?
