To meet Utopian levels of decarbonisation demanded by 2050, requiring the resources called upon to electrify transport, and heating, on top of current currently produced renewable power will require such a national effort and at such an exorbitant cost as to make the UK uncompetitive with the rest of the world, and unable do do much more than simply bankrupt itself. So much effort and resources expended for no gain will be the end of us
Running a local Grid and a centralised Grid, linked to subsidised unreliable renewables and subsidised fossil-fuelled power stations where the unreliable power source is always favoured, is unquestionably economic madness.
Furthermore, to achieve this target while accepting the losses involved in energy transfer and transmission, and assuming the (unlikely) discovery of enhanced battery technology, will necessitate multiplication of current renewable output as we know it !
If the entire country would be then literally covered with industrial wind turbines, solar panels and electricity pilons, (as though we are all made to apologise for living,) – unable to finance any further economic enterprise, exactly who in the envisaged appalling landscape, would ever want to live here ?
