ISN’T it amazing how quickly inflation bites? Less than two weeks ago we
were told by a mix of vested interests – the Neart na Gaoithe (NnG)
coalition – that the proposed Forth/Tay North Sea offshore wind farms would
provide some 300,000 homes or more with electricity. Whereas that has now
suddenly jumped to 1.4 million homes (“£2bn offshore windfarm project could
create 2,000 jobs, says study”, The Herald, August 29). The propensity to
bump up the numbers is a result of years of fooling the Scottish
Government, that will unquestionably accept and rubber-stamp such nonsense,
regardless of the consequences. The next thing will be to go for broke and
announce that offshore wind farms will provide electricity for all 5.3
million of the Scottish population. If you are going to lie then you might
as well make it a whopper.
On behalf of the hundreds of thousands of wildlife enthusiasts in Scotland,
I call on the NnG coalition to call off its immensely destructive proposals
and let our seabirds survive.
Bernard Zonfrillo,
28 Brodie Road, Glasgow.
