A growing number of people in Scotland want to see more action on climate
change, according to a poll.
Results from a survey by WWF Scotland show an increase in the percentage of
those calling for more investment, renewable energy sources and a reduction
in emissions.
More than three-quarters (76%) of respondents said the Scottish government
should reduce climate change emissions by “investing more in improving the
energy efficiency of homes across Scotland”, up from 67% in 2016.
And 71% thought electricity should be generated from Scotland’s renewable
resources, up from 61% in 2016: this is annual increase of 14.5%
The data comes as a new Scottish Climate Change Bill is out for public
consultation
The SNP claimed the poll results show popular support for its governing
party’s environmental and energy policies.
Gillian Martin, the party’s MSP for Aberdeenshire East, said: “Since 2010,
the Tories have cut subsidies for new renewable projects, scrapped
proposals for a £1 billion Carbon Capture and Storage Scheme at Peterhead,
and are set to drag the UK out of the EU with absolutely no guarantees over
future environmental protections – despite the impending global climate crisis.
“In contrast, the SNP has stood up for Scotland’s renewable energy sector
and made Scotland a world-leader in tackling climate change by investing in
renewable technology such as wind, wave, solar and tidal, to help meet
Scotland’s energy needs.
“Scotland needs a strong renewables sector – and the public agree. The
Tories must do more to ensure that the funding is in place to support this
vital industry, which not only creates jobs but will be instrumental in our
efforts to combat climate change.”

Wishing only to disadvantage itself, Scotland remains as the world’s top idiot, as the rest of the world couldn’t give a fig about Climate Change. The vast majority of countries who signed the Paris Accord ( of course they would sign ) are only waiting for hand-outs from Europe, the UK, and not now America who are the main contributors and who have the biggest deficits.
The rest of the world is making a dash for King Coal while giving only ‘Lip Service’ to Global Warming/Climate Change as they hope to be the recipients from those countries who can ill afford to pay.
Meanwhile ships trying to prove diminishing ice in the Antarctic, and the Arctic where polar bears are thriving, – are being frozen in.
Sea levels are rising for some countries and reducing for others because of movements in the earth, and the world’s sensitivity to increasing CO2 levels is increasingly being questioned. In the league of concern, Climate Change is now slipping. Scotland needs to wake up !
