A seminar on ‘Wind Turbine Noise’ is taking place at the Radisson Blu in
Argyle Street, Glasgow on Friday September 22 at 7pm.
World renowned researcher and doctor Professor Mariana Alves-Pereira is the
main speaker and academics from Australia and other countries will be
attending. The wind industry is also sending delegates.
As appeared in last week’s ‘News’. the North Ayrshire planning committee
opposed SSE’s two year extension for Hunterston’s turbine facility, due to
it being ‘contrary to planning policy’ and inappropriate in design and
scale to its surroundings.
SSE’s appeal to Scottish ministers resulted in North Ayrshire Council no
longer being able to determine the application, and instead the matter will
be decided by Scottish ministers next month.
Fairlie community council chairman Rita Holmes is urging locals to attend
next Friday’s event, and said: “It is taking place six days before the
Scottish Government Reporter does his site visit to Hunterston and then
makes his decision by the 13th October. This is not an anti wind energy
event, but aimed at enabling communities, local authorities, public health
officials and wind farm developers an opportunity to learn more about
infrasound and low frequency noise from wind turbines.”
Melvin Grosvenor, of the UK Independent Noise Working Group (INWG) will
also introduce “How Wind Turbines Create Infrasound” by Dr John Yelland,
Independent Acoustician. Both gave a talk in Fairlie Village Hall earlier
this year on wind turbine noise.
Tickets are available from www.eventbrite.co.uk
