Minutes of the September DPEA Stakeholder’s Meeting attended by SAS will be published shortly.  In the meantime we have received the following communication:

At our recent Stakeholder’s meeting a request was made for a breakdown of planning permission appeals allowed/refused by DPEA that were either in line with or contrary to officers recommendation at the planning application stage.

I can confirm that in the period 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2019

We received 88 planning permission appeals where the committee did not agree with the planning officer recommendation and allowed 35 of those (40%)

We received 87 planning permission appeals where the committee did agree with the planning officer recommendation and allowed 42 of those (48%)

Most of these appeals were on refusals but there were some on deemed refusals and conditions.

We also issued 8 decisions on planning permission appeals where no planning officer recommendation was made and allowed 4 of those (50%) – all of these were appeals on deemed refusal.
