STOP THE DESTRUCTION OF THE HIGHLANDS: We Need Your Help!

Please Act Now – deadline to oppose this application is 23rd May!

On the 1st April WKNGmbH German Energy submitted yet another application to the Highland Council to build the Sallachy Wind Farm Ref. 21/01615/FUL – 9 huge 500ft turbines along the stunning shore of Loch Shin owned by the Sallachy Estate, Lairg. Your urgent help is needed to protect yourself, the native birds, wildlife and tourism or this majestic, peaceful, designated Wild Land will be dominated by steel giants and peaceful no more. Help now because once it’s gone, it’s gone forever.

You will be astounded at just how detrimental this proposal is for Lairg and Loch Shin.  Simply submit your objections and comments to Highland Council Planning.

You can make a difference and stop this happening – Act now before the deadline of May 23rd.

This proposal was assessed and rejected outright previously by the Scottish Government and once again it has been submitted.  But this precious part of the Highlands has a vital, continuing, need for protection which must not give way to corporately motivated, temporary financial incentives, above the rare legacy of Scotland’s heritage and unique land.

How do I do this?

*Most direct and effective way of having your say is to login to Highland Council at: https://wam.highland.gov.uk/wam/  Register here with your name, address and postcode and search:  Sallachy Wind Farm ref. 21/01615/FUL You can comment, object and read any relevant planning documents.

*Email eplanning@highland.gov.uk stating the reference: Sallachy Wind Farm Proposal 21/01615/FUL with your reasons for objection and include your name, address and postcode.

*Or write a letter to Highland Council Planning Department, The Highland Council Headquarters, Glenurquhart Road, Inverness IV3 5NX referencing Sallachy Wind Farm ref. 21/01615/FUL

*Each person in your home will count but you must each send from a different email address or send a separate letter.

*Friends, visitors, tourists can also object in the ways outlined above. Spread the word!

Key objections you can refer to which can make a difference (use your own words where possible please):

  • This site is part of the No.34 Reay-Cassley Wild Land Area designated for protection by Scottish Natural Heritage in 2015. Home to eagles, red kite, ospreys, waxwings to name but a few. Words taken from NatureScot’s report on this area: ‘awe-inspiring’, ‘naturalness’, ‘a strong sense of sanctuary and solitude prevails.’
  • The visual impact on this stunning landscape, on a forward slope, is actually documented in the company’s own planning application as likely to cause ‘localised significant effects.’
  • The hugely detrimental effect on tourism and wellbeing. Thousands of people come here to commune with nature, cycle, walk the hills, kayak, fish and renew their health both physically and mentally ( documented in Public Health research). Potential loss of visitors initially by up to 20% increasing each year.
  • The proposed site is a mixture of Class 1 (nationally important, worthy of protection) and Class 2 peatland. The retention of gases in healthy peatland plays a vital role in locking in carbon and reducing greenhouse gases.

Other objections; noise pollution, reduction in property values (5-50%), endangering rare birds and butterflies, water run-off and soil erosion, cumulative effects of more and more windfarms and lack of meaningful local consultation taking place during Covid restrictions.

Act now. Your objections must be received by Highland Council by 23rd May 2021. Thank you.
