The Scottish Energy Minister wants to accelerate the deployment of renewables to deal with rising energy costs.

Michael Matheson, Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero, Energy and Transport, told ScottishRenewables Offshore Wind 2022 that now “more than ever” the country needs to re-examine its energy system.

Matheson, speaking in Glasgow on Tuesday, the first day of the conference, said he is “acutely aware” of how people across Scotland are facing rising energy prices as well as inflation.

“The current highly unpredictable nature of oil and gas prices in my view underscores the need for us to accelerate decarbonisation of the energy system in the years ahead,” he said.

Matheson said “good progress” has already been made, citing the success of onshore wind deployment and other renewables.

However, he said there is now a need to accelerate the deployment of renewables in Scotland.  https://renews.biz/76233/scotland-to-hit-renewables-accelerator-over-energy-costs/
