That was some debate. Grateful thanks to Douglas Lumsden in particular (we hope his blood pressure returns to normal at some point) and also Rachael Hamilton and Finlay Carson. Sadly Gillian Martin’s motion was agreed and the Scottish Government won the debate, there will be no nuclear in Scotland. The amendments from Douglas Lumsden, Sarah Boyack and Patrick Harvie failed. Absolutely worth a watch
The motion was “That the Parliament rejects the creation of new nuclear power plants in Scotland and the risk that they bring; believes that Scotland’s future is as a renewables powerhouse; further believes that the expansion of renewables should have a positive impact on household energy bills; notes the challenges and dangers of producing and managing hazardous radioactive nuclear waste products, and the potentially catastrophic consequences of the failure of a nuclear power plant; recognises that the development and operation of renewable power generation is faster, cheaper and safer than that of nuclear power, and welcomes that renewables would deliver higher employment than nuclear power for the development and production of equivalent levels of generated power.  https://www.scottishparliament.tv/meeting/meeting-of-the-parliament-accessible-march-4-2025?clip_start=15%3A08%3A55&clip_end=17%3A48%3A08&fbclid=IwY2xjawI08ahleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHWWRrIek5dtsDH9M4NRP1seh8Fk7dQlAdatSVOj9U04VOQAS6hk4VkbQcw_aem_-G48q3LwAvXSxaZAoftuKg
