UPDATE ON THIS STORY. The appeal decision for the first application on this BESS has just been published and the Reporter REFUSED the appeal but due to the fact the Councillors APPROVED the second application before the Reporter’s decision was published it means that the development will go ahead.
Interesting fact mentioned in the decision (it is being argued in a number of cases in England at the moment we are told), a battery scheme is not a renewable energy proposal. “…because a battery scheme exports electricity, the proposal should be treated as generating/distribution infrastructure for policy purposes and not a renewable energy proposal.” https://www.dpea.scotland.gov.uk/Document.aspx?id=1089364
A concerned mum has shared her fears for her family after plans to store energy in batteries on greenbelt land across from her home were approved.
Last month East Renfrewshire Council gave Cheshire-based firm GPC 1337 Ltd, which is understood to be a subsidiary of Apatura, the go ahead to build and run a 40-megawatt battery energy storage system (BESS) on an agricultural site at the east side of Glasgow Road in Eaglesham.
