First Minister, John Swinney proudly proclaims the “Highlands are at the heart of the green energy revolution”, You bet we are!

We are being swamped by ruthless wind farm developers keen to make a quick buck at the expense of communities and our incomparably-beautiful Highlands.

The situation is so catastrophic that 57 Community councils from across the Highlands gathered together, for the second time, in Inverness on Tuesday to demand a “moratorium” over renewables infrastructure. (Scotsman 13th August).

Both Scottish Energy Secretary Gillian Martin and energy minister for the UK government Michael Shanks couldn’t be bothered to turn up!

I defy John Swinney, or any politician, to drive along the A831 near Beauly, from Lovat Bridge to the Kilmorack Gallery and explain to us all what is ‘clean and green’ about the acres and acres of industrial devastation at the vast substation.

I defy John Swinney, or any politician, to take the A96 through Keith towards Huntly and tell us what is ‘clean and green’ about the gargantuan Blackhillock, and now Whitehillock, substations gobbling up farmland where a veritable spider’s web of giant powerlines and pylons converge to dominate our once beautiful countryside.

To quote Ansel Adams, the great landscape photographer, – “It is horrifying that we have to fight our own government to save the environment”.

Yes, Mr Swinney, you have left Highland Communities utterly heartbroken!

Yours,
