As members of the DPEA Stakeholder Forum, Aileen and Rachel attended the meeting on 2 June on behalf of SAS.

It is obvious from the minutes and from attending the meeting, that there are serious concerns from a number of quarters that public participation in the planning and appeal process is in danger of being stifled or sidelined due to the proposed changes to the Electricity Act 1989.

Indeed one of the lawyers who attended the meeting said that he expected a drop in the number of wind farm inquiries being held and that this had already happened with regard to housing appeals where public inquiries are now almost non existent.

We’re certainly in for a period of uncertainty until we see how this is going to be applied.
