Community representatives in Thurso claim grassroots views and concerns are being blanked in decisions taken over major wind energy and associated power line upgrades in the far north.
They cite Highland Council’s approval earlier this month of the [major new electrical sub-station at Banniskirk as the latest example where local opposition to the schemes has been sidelined.
“We want the planning process to take the public’s viewpoint into consideration,” Thurso Community Council chair Willie MacGillivray said at its latest meeting on Tuesday evening.
The community council is keen to garner support from its counterparts in Caithness to mount a joint lobby on the issue.
He said: “Community councils continue to encourage people to go to consultation events and attend presentations on planning proposals.
“We’re doing our job but it’s not happening at the planning committee.
