The Petitions Committee meet again on 11 February at 9.30am and this time they will discuss all the energy related petitions individually. Ours is first on the Agenda.
The Committee will consider the following continued petitions—
PE1864: Increase the ability of communities to influence planning decisions for onshore windfarms;
PE1885: Make offering Community Shared Ownership mandatory for all windfarm development planning proposals;
PE2095: Improve the public consultation processes for energy infrastructure projects;
PE2109: Halt any further pump storage hydro schemes on Scottish lochs holding wild Atlantic salmon;
PE2157: Update planning advice for energy storage issues and ensure that it includes clear guidance for the location of battery energy storage systems near residences and communities;
PE2159: Halt the production of hydrogen from freshwater;
PE2160: Introduce an energy strategy;
“The committee is likely to close most petitions at this stage, (due to the upcoming election) although that will be for the meeting to finally decide on an individual petition basis.
There is a good reason for doing so. Closed petitions can be resubmitted on day one of the new parliament. However, petitions held over, especially longstanding ones which may have been lodged when a previous situation prevailed, may be closed by the new committee. If so, then the petition cannot be submitted for 12 months.”
The Committee has always supported our petition and we can only hope they make the right decision!
We are not asking for our members to make the journey on the day as not only is there a likelihood of snow but it is unlikely to be a long discussion as there are so many petitions to get through. I’ll post the link nearer the time so you can watch live in the comfort of your own home!
