A seabird compensation proposal by the developer of Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm has been criticised as undermining “confidence in the plans” and setting “a dangerous precedent for future developments”.
The Scottish Seabird Centre has written to the Marine Directorate objecting to what it describes as the ‘salami-slicing’ of the compensation plan for the seabird deaths set to be caused by Berwick Bank wind farm.
Harry Huyton, CEO of the Scottish Seabird Centre, said: “We fully support the transition to renewable energy, but it must be delivered in harmony with nature. The Berwick Bank area is rich with wildlife and an important foraging ground for seabirds that are already on the brink.
