YOUR Friday article regarding the Scottish Green Party’s stance on energy infrastructure highlights a glaring contradiction in their policy. While the Greens now argue they may support any new nuclear developments as long as they have the explicit consent of the host community, they operate with a complete double standard when it comes to renewable energy.
Across the country, rural communities are expressing valid concerns over the scale and placement of massive wind farms, solar arrays, and transmission lines. Very often, these major projects are fast-tracked or pushed through despite intense local opposition. Yet we rarely see the Greens championing a local “community veto” for these developments with the same enthusiasm.
A community’s right to a say in its local environment should be absolute, not conditional on the type of project being built. By weaponising local consent against nuclear energy while dismissing the very same concerns when it comes to renewables, the Greens expose a glaring hypocrisy. It appears they only care about local voices when those voices happen to align with their party ideology.
