WE note John Campbell’s letter (October 3) regarding the North Ayrshire
Council (NAC) planning department’s granting of permission for five wind
turbines to be placed at either end of Holy Island. We, the Arran Civic
Trustr, are also very converned.
This has been approved by the planning department and not even considered
by the planning committee of elected council members. The planners have
ridden roughshod over the views of the local community, where there were
objections from the Arran Community Council, the Arrran Civic Trust and
approximately 100 other objectors.
Holy Island is a Scottish Heritage island with much history attached to it
and NAC, despite its decision, refers to it as a Landscape of High
Sensitivity. It is indeed an important part of the Arran landscape, where
no other wind turbines are allowed. What now can be done to stop this
eyesore which will affect everyone who comes to the Island?
