Glenkens community councillors want meeting with developers of king-size windfarm – Daily Record

Published by SAS Volunteer on May 22, 2019 May 22, 2019

By Stephen Norris
Developers proposing a king-size windfarm in the Glenkens are being invited
to a public meeting in New Galloway.
The Royal Burgh of New Galloway and Kells Parish Community Council want
Torrs Hill Wind Farm Ltd to justify their scheme.
The company is bidding to erect 12 turbines next to the scenic Rhinns of Kells.
Some machines would be almost 100 metres taller than Blackpool Tower,
community councillors heard on Monday.
Chairman Craig Millar told the town hall meeting: “We want a full open
public meeting with a presentation by the Torrs Hill Wind Farm project team.
“We have major concerns about this planning application. It will impact our
whole community and we need answers to our questions.”
The proposed windfarm site is on the Forrest Estate owned by London-based
Fred Olsen Ltd, members heard.
Mr Millar added: “I have no qualms about taking this wider if need be. We
do not have the power to do this on our own. We need a far larger and wider
group than we have at the moment.
“I would see a group of community councils coming together to do it.”
Local man Michael Ansell said: “A strong signal should be sent from the
community to say this is a development that is in no way acceptable.”
