There is a large spanner in the works about to hit ‘renewable’ advocates head on. The incontrovertible fact is that no transition from fossil fuels to “green” energy sources is under way, nor will it occur, ever. Why? Because wind and solar installations are entirely parasitic: they cannot be Read more
THE premise that wind energy will lead to lower electricity costs is one that I believe fails the credibility test. There is no solution that compensates for the fact that there is no wind power when the wind does not blow. If we are to have security of electricity Read more
Scotland’s fishing fleet is facing a “huge squeeze” as offshore wind farms and highly protected marine areas (HPMAs) create more crowded seas, the industry has warned. Elspeth Macdonald, chief executive of the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation (SFF), urged the UK and the Scottish governments to “recognise and acknowledge” the key role Read more
LOOK OUTSIDE THE DOMESTIC BUBBLE IAIN McIntyre and Ronald Cameron (Letters, November 6) need to look outside their Scottish bubble, which has a miniscule 0.15 per cent of global emissions or indeed the UK with 1.13%. Mr Cameron, who has an expensive electric car on which he probably received Read more

The forecast figures around jobs in renewables often look good. Take a recent analysis of Scotland’s biggest planned offshore wind farm, Berwick Bank, in the outer Firth of Forth, by BVG associates, which estimated this single project could bring round 4,650 direct and indirect jobs in Scotland, and 9,300 in Read more
Blowback Many politicians and fellow letter writers claim that the cost of wind-generated electricity is cheaper than that generated by gas. Although this claim is highly questionable it diverts attention from the real and significant problem with wind generation, namely its reliability. Whether one or ten thousand wind turbines Read more
Closing coal-fired power stations was a disaster IN October National Grid warned of possible power cuts in the coming winter. How is this possible in the world’s sixth-largest economy, in a country which pioneered every form of electricity generation through its innovating engineers and entrepreneurs? I’ll tell you why. It Read more
