Opponents to the eight turbine windfarm at Brunta Hill have welcomed news that planning officers are recommending that it should not be given planning permission.

Scottish Borders Council’s planning committee will decide on Monday, August 5, whether or not to let PNE Wind UK go ahead with the 100m high turbines.

A spokesperson for local residents opposed to the development said: “The application has been comprehensively assessed by the planning officers who have robustly recommended that it be rejected.

“We fully appreciate and welcome this work by the council planning officers and now hope that the councillors will support the detailed assessment, conclusions and recommendations of the officers. To do otherwise would lead to devastating landscape and visual impacts, together with a loss of amenity to those living closest to the proposal.”

In recommending that the committee turn down the application SBC’s planning officers say that it would contravene planning policies and “lead to significant and unacceptable impacts on the landscape character of the surrounding area, and would undermine the integrity of the Lammermuir Hills Special Landscape Area. The development would also lead to adverse visual effects on the northern section of the Southern Upland Way, incorporating Twin Law Cairns.

“The development would have an overbearing and dominant impact on the amenity of nearby residential properties.”

Finally they say that in combination with Corsbie Moor and Fallago Rig the development would also lead to unacceptable cumulative effects on landscape character and the integrity of the Lammermuir Hills and the northern section of the Southern Upland Way,
