The most comprehensive report of its kind sought out to pinpoint the best locations in the UK for householders to install micro-wind turbines.

The Energy Saving Trust concluded that some home owners could generate more than £2,800 worth of electricity a year, while others would lose money.

The study confirms what David Cameron, the Conservative leader, found to his cost when he was forced to abandon plans to put a wind turbine on his home in Notting Hill, where the average wind speed is not high enough.
