PRESS NOTICE 1 December 2013

With the number of signed-up supporters of the ‘No Moriston Wind Farm’ campaign approaching

300, many attended a social evening and exhibition at the Millennium Hall, Invermoriston on

Saturday, 30 November. Community anger has grown steadily about the cumulative impact of

proposed and operational wind farms in the Fort Augustus and Glenmoriston area following the

proposal by energy giant, E.ON for a 30 turbine array on the southern Glenmoriston hills.

“We had a tremendous turn-out for this social event,” said steering group member, Maureen

Brown. “People are shocked by these irresponsible plans in such a beautiful and famous area of

Scotland. They want to register their disgust and more supporters are coming on board every day.

The largest single group is from Fort Augustus, the main population centre, but Invermoriston,

Glenmoriston and Dalchreichart are also very solidly represented.”

A professional ‘movie’ film of the potential impact of these developments has been made available

on the campaign website and on other Internet sites. Portraying the 81 turbine gauntlet stretching

about 10 miles along Glenmoriston, the video has now been circulated to all MSPs and Scottish

Members of the parliaments at Westminster and the European Union. Within a couple of days of

appearing on the Internet, the video had been viewed hundreds of times and brought expressions of

support from all over Scotland, the UK and overseas.

Another steering group member, Andrew Lloyd, said, “It is becoming increasingly obvious that this

indiscriminate scramble for profits from wind farms cannot be justified by their immense cost nor

by their feeble potential for protecting the climate. Many of us are horrified at the damage they will

cause to the environment and the numbers of birds they will kill. There is a lot of anxiety, too, about

the damage they will cause to businesses and property values. People simply no longer believe the

reassurances of the developers or the politicians about these things. They are too aware of the

negative experiences of other victims of this reckless policy.”
