A CONTROVERSIAL plan for a new wind farm with 220-metre-tall turbines near Cumnock has been refused by East Ayrshire’s planning committee.
Green Cat Renewables (GCR) had submitted the proposals for the new Drum Wind Farm site, just south of Lugar and Cronberry.
Ballochmyle Councillor William Lennox told a meeting on Friday, September 26: “It looks as if it has been dropped out a helicopter into the middle of the landscape.”
Cumnock and New Cumnock Councillor Neill Watts, meanwhile, described the plan as “out of character” for the area.
He added: “It does look like it’s just something that’s been dropped from the Moon.”
While supported by some community councils, there were a number of objections from locals – as well as NatureScot, the RSPB and Prestwick Airport, who feared the height of the turbines could affect air traffic control.
