Scattered across the landscape, archaeological and heritage sites – from cairns and Iron Age forts to Pictish stones and brochs – make up an ancient tapestry of Highland life.
Untouched for generations, campaigners now fear plans for the 400kV overhead pylon line from Spittal to Beauly will inflict “shocking” levels of damage on remnants of the Highlands’ past, leaving sites scarred and the character of historic landscapes irrevocably altered.
A group pressing for the safeguarding of archaeology and heritage sites along the proposed pylon route is urging Highland Council to lodge a holding objection against the proposal, and is appealing for the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit to allow more time to prepare detailed responses.
Members of the Spittal-beauly Heritage Under Threat group say they are appalled at the risk to important Highland heritage sites and landscapes from the Spittalbeauly line.  https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/25460636.pylon-plans-spark-fears-highland-heritage-sites/?fbclid=IwY2xjawMyCWRleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHoANeMmeNEKx_MlumcqR6JpXpKZl5qHUw9Q6s8XCfEqrZOjp20PUmePhmDxC_aem_PJUBaxrHwluoRa0gBwWy1g
