Our latest submission to the Petitions Committee has now been posted on the Parliament’s webpage
Finlay Carson MSP has also just made another written submission which we thought you might want to read.
Hands off our Hills and Galloway Without Pylons are also mentioned in Finlay’s submission.
We have been told that “The committee is likely to close most petitions at this stage, (due to the upcoming election) although that will be for the meeting to finally decide on an individual petition basis.
There is a good reason for doing so. Closed petitions can be resubmitted on day one of the new parliament. However, petitions held over, especially longstanding ones which may have been lodged when a previous situation prevailed, may be closed by the new committee. If so, then the petition cannot be submitted for 12 months.”
We know the Committee has always supported our Petition and we are hopeful that they will make the right decision on 11 February as to whether it would be best to close it or continue it.
What have we managed to achieve with our Petition?  The Scottish Government has finally agreed to a Consultation on raising the 50MW threshold to allow for more local decision making and without a doubt Reporters are going out of their way to try to make members of the public feel more comfortable and less intimidated when taking part in public inquiries but of course that is not the end of the story as you can see from our submission .  We need public funding to help pay for professional representation otherwise we can never compete against developers on equal terms.
