A LEADING north anti-windfarm campaigner has described a new multi-million pound, pan-Highland community benefit fund, unveiled in Sutherland this week by energy giant Scottish and Southern Electricity (SSE), as “blood money.”

Stuart Young, chairman of Caithness Windfarm Information Forum, made the comment following the high-profile launch of the new Sustainable Development Fund at Bonar Bridge Village Hall on Tuesday.

He claimed the money offered was a “paltry” sum when compared to the effect windfarms had on people’s homes and businesses and that SSE was being “cynical” in making the improvement of the environment one of the fund’s priorities.
