ENERGY giant SSE has been given a £1 million funding boost for Scottish and
Southern Energy’s wind turbine testing plant at Hunterston.

The UK Government funds have been earmarked for the Ayrshire facility are
part of investments announced by Energy Secretary Ed Davey at the renewable
association’s annual conference in Birmingham.

It is Scotland’s first offshore wind turbine test site and is currently
overseeing the development three prototype turbines.

RenewableUK’s chief executive Maria McCaffery said: “Wind plays a crucial
role in the UK’s energy portfolio and that role will continue to increase
in importance in the years ahead. The investment he announced is
particularly timely.”
