Scotland’s first 100% cooperatively owned green energy project has launched
in Dingwall, Rossshire.

The Dingwall Wind Co-op is offering local people the chance to own a 250
kilowatt wind turbine, and has already sold 75% of the £856,000 worth of
shares on offer. Members of the public can buy as little as £250 worth or
up to £20,000 and will receive tax benefits as well as a return on the
investment.

The majority of the shares sold have been bought by Dingwall residents, who
become members of the cooperative. The scheme will also generate £8000 for
a local community fund.

Anne Schiffer, Community Power campaigner at Friends of the Earth Scotland,
said: “The sheer speed at which shares have been taken up is a clear
indicator that people in Scotland have the desire and financial ability to
own renewable generation.”
